Border
Border (2018) by Ali Abbasi is a Swedish fantasy film based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It follows Tina, a customs officer with an unusual ability to sense guilt and shame, making her extremely effective at catching smugglers. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Vore, a mysterious man who seems to share her peculiarities. As she gets closer to Vore, Tina starts uncovering hidden truths about her own identity and origins, leading to a journey of self-discovery that challenges the boundaries of what it means to be human.
Winning the Un Certain Regard award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Border was also selected as the Swedish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
